What Does Tri 21 Stand For?

THE DEFINITION OF TRI 21:

Right behind being asked how to play the game, this is the most common question we get asked. After much brainstorming for a catchy name, our team eventually agreed that Tri 21 was IT! Keeping the concept simple, by playing off the triangular shape (Tri) of the boards combined with the winning score of 21. However, it just couldn’t remain that simple though…

It didn’t take long before the coincidence of this name choice brought a whole new meaning to our mission. Tri 21 is also short for Trisomy 21, a genetic chromosome 21 disorder, commonly known as Down syndrome. As the most common chromosomal anomaly in humans, affecting more than 350,000 people in the United States, we now realized our simple name has led us to our purpose!

WHAT DOES TRI 21 AS A COMPANY STAND FOR?:

We, as a company, stand for quality time with family. We understand this can be represented in many forms, but our way of bringing family together is through QUALITY time spent together, interacting with each other, verses just QUANTITY time sitting in front of some screen.

We also stand for inclusion, regardless of age and ability. Terri Brummer, one of the 4 owners of Tri 21 is a Special Education Teacher in Buffalo, MN and works with families affected by down syndrome and other disabilities throughout the year. She encourages her students to find connections to people, to form meaningful relationships. It sure sounds funny to say, “My best friend is my television/ipad/computer/game system,” and her students do see the humor in how ridiculous this sounds.

The sad truth is that screen time is stealing opportunities to make friendships, to nurture relationships, to communicate with our voices. Staying active and maintaining family connections directly provides a positive impact on a family’s well-being. We encourage each of you to take the time to hug more, talk more to each other, and acknowledge one another’s accomplishments.

Our yard game can be played by all ages and all abilities! Before you know it, high-fives are happening, smiles are beaming, communication is happening, academic math skills are being put into play, relationships are strengthening and a fun competition is brewing.

Celebrate all abilities and embrace differences! Although Tri 21 was found to connect to Down syndrome, we ARE embracing all abilities by making contributions to the MN Special Olympics program. We would love your help to support our mission to provide donations to the MN Special Olympics program as well. You can do so here.

Differences bring us together & together we make a difference!
